Serbia planning to develop domestic chip ecosystem: Working group formed to implement necessary activities

At its latest session, the Serbian Government adopted a Decision on Forming the Working Group for the Development and Design of Integrated Circuits (Chips).

As stated in the decision, this working group is being established to implement activities in the field of development and design of integrated circuits and systems on a chip, in accordance with the objectives of the Industrial Policy Strategy of the Republic of Serbia from 2021 to 2030 and the Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2025–2030 in the field of digital transformation and technological development.

– The task of the working group is to, within six months from the date of entry into force of this decision, conduct an analysis of the current situation in the field of microelectronics, chip design and related industries in the Republic of Serbia, and to draft an expert opinion, to propose a strategic framework and program for the development of the domestic chip ecosystem – the decision states.

Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Office for Information Technology and Electronic Government, was appointed as the Chairman of the Working Group.

The Office for Information Technology and Electronic Government will provide expert and administrative-technical support for the needs of the Working Group.

As stated, the Working Group may engage other experts to perform certain tasks within the scope of its tasks, and subgroups may be formed for specific issues to perform certain tasks.

– The Working Group is obliged to submit a report on its work to the General Secretariat of the Government, within 30 days of the completion of its work, containing an expert opinion, a proposal for a strategic framework and a program for the development of the domestic chip ecosystem – the decision states.
