Nikola Tesla Airport continues expansion – New gates, air bridges, hotel and Air Serbia headquarters to be built

Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade is planning to reconstruct part of Terminal 1 with the addition of a new gate, while work continues on the expansion of Terminal 2. The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has issued location conditions to the airport for the reconstruction and adaptation of part of Terminal 1 to form a new international bus gate.

At the same time, work is progressing on the expansion of Terminal 2, focusing on three new gates, including three air bridges and four additional aircraft parking positions. After the completion of the upgrades at Terminals 1 and 2, the airport will have a total of 37 gates.

New gates C15 to C18 are being built within Wing C, with gates C15-C17 having air bridges, while C18 will be a bus gate for Code C aircraft with a maximum wingspan of up to 36 meters. The project also includes the extension of taxiway T, which will connect C18 to the rest of the taxiway system and de-icing system, new service roads, improved storm sewer system, apron works, exterior lighting with 22-meter-high LED columns, new energy and control systems, as well as four conveyor belts inside the terminal, arranged between departures and arrivals.

Also, the construction of the new Air Serbia headquarters across the airport is underway and is progressing according to plan, with work currently underway to install glass panels on the facade of the building. The building will have a total gross area of 7,985 m2 and will be in line with the height of the neighboring Aeronautics Museum. Completion of the works is scheduled for May 15, 2027.

The complex will also include landscaped green areas, as well as an open parking lot in the northwestern part of the plot with 140 spaces, including six spaces for people with reduced mobility. A new roundabout and access road are being built alongside the complex, which will connect to the airport’s future railway station, which is currently under construction.

The foundations have been laid for a planned airport hotel, also being developed by Air Serbia, while construction of an additional office building within the complex is expected at a later stage. Preparations are also underway for the reconstruction and expansion of the Aeronautics Museum.
