Euronews Owners To Buy N1, Nova S, and Another Dozen Regional Media Outlets for EUR 30 Million?

The Raskrikavanje portal reported that the company United Group plans to sell its media business to the Luxembourg-based fund European Future Media Investments, backed by the Portuguese investment group Alpac Capital.

According to Raskrikavanje, based on the final version of the contract — which has not yet been signed, but which the portal obtained — the fund would pay only EUR 30 million for several television stations and media outlets in the region, including N1, Nova S, as well as media companies in Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Two Luxembourg-based companies have agreed on the sale of Adria News, the owner of the regional N1 and Nova media network, along with a number of affiliated companies in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro, Raskrikavanje writes.

The article also states that although the official buyer is listed as the Luxembourg fund European Future Media Investments S.C.S. (EFMI), details from the contract — such as notification addresses and key individuals involved — clearly point to the Portuguese investment firm Alpac Capital. The contract names Pedro Vargas David and Afonso Guerra as the buyer’s contact persons, Raskrikavanje reports.

Pedro Vargas David is publicly known, according to the portal, as the director of Alpac Capital, the company that acquired a majority stake in Euronews in 2022, the pan-European news channel broadcasting in more than 12 languages.

Although it uses the name and visual identity of the pan-European Euronews channel, Euronews Serbia is not ownership-linked to the European media company. It is a franchise arrangement under which the right to use the brand was granted to Arena Channels Group, operating within the state-owned Telekom Srbija.

Adria News Network announced that it continues to operate as before, in accordance with the existing editorial structures, standards, and governance framework. N1 is part of that company.

The statement adds that, regarding external speculation and media reporting related to potential investor interest, ANN’s policy is not to comment on market speculation, shareholder discussions, or potential transactions until there is an official announcement.

Meanwhile, according to N1, any conclusion of the contract would require approval from the United Group Board of Directors, and the board has not yet convened.
