Elektroprivreda Srbije has announced a tender for the first phase of rehabilitation of the left bank of the Bajina Basta HPP dam, with an estimated value of around 640.2 million dinars excluding VAT.

As stated in the public procurement documentation, the subject of the works are the construction interventions envisaged in the Preliminary Design for the Rehabilitation of the Left Bank of the Dam, primarily on unit 19 and its contacts with units 18 and 20.

Works are planned to fill the lower part of the units with massive concrete, as well as the installation of prestressed anchors through the newly poured concrete, in order to connect the new structure to the existing one. The goal is to form a rigid reinforced concrete beam that could take on the lateral bending effects and additional loads that were not fully considered during the initial design, but were, as stated, identified during the decades-long exploitation of the dam.

The documentation reminds that part of the rehabilitation works on the left side were already carried out in 2000, when the lower part of unit 20 was rehabilitated and the first phase of the monitoring equipment for monitoring the behavior of the structure was installed.

The new phase of the works also includes the installation of additional monitoring equipment, which will enable more precise monitoring of the condition of this capital hydropower facility and analysis of the impact of loads during future exploitation.

The second phase, which will be the subject of a separate public procurement, has to do with reinforced concrete works on the upper parts of the structure, specialist works on the installation of additional anchors and part of the monitoring equipment.

EPS states that the works will be carried out in the border zone between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is why the contractors must include additional costs for transporting equipment and machinery, since access to the site from the Serbian side is limited.

The approval of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure from March 2024 has already been obtained for the execution of the works.

The deadline for submitting bids is June 10, and for more details (in Serbian), see HERE.
