Tender for design and construction of 58.5 km Belgrade-Nis high-speed railroad between Paracin and Trupale to be launched soon

The Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure are planning to launch a public procurement procedure soon for the reconstruction and modernization of the Belgrade-Nis railroad, namely for its section 3 from Paracin to Trupale. The previous notice published in connection with this work specifically concerns the works contract - the design and construction of section 3.

The works contract will cover the project for the modernization of the railway, which is divided into three subsections. Since subsection 3.2 Stalac - Djunis has already been contracted, the works relate to subsections 3.1 Paracin–Stalac and 3.3 Djunis–Trupale. The subsection Paracin–Stalac is 20.8 km long, while the subsection Djunis–Trupale is 37.7 km long.

As highlighted, a total of nine stations will be reconstructed and modernized to meet the needs of both passenger and freight traffic. The design speed is 200 km/h for subsection 3.1, while the design speed for section 3.3 is 160 km/h.

– On subsection 3.1, the works include 12 grade crossings, 8 bridges and culverts, two pedestrian underpasses, one retaining wall and 17 culverts under the railway line. On subsection 3.3, the works include 18 grade crossings, 14 bridges and culverts, two pedestrian underpasses, 15 retaining walls, 18 culverts under the railway line and two culverts under the roadway – it is specified in the previous announcement.

As added, on both subsections, the existing overhead contact line systems will be reconstructed and new ones will be built, as well as electrical installations in stations, tunnels and tunnel entrances, energy facilities, relay stations, sectional towers, remote control systems for electric traction installations, etc.

– During the execution of signaling works in stations, automatic switching of switches and train routes will not be possible. Due to the shutdown of station signaling systems, work will be adjusted to a temporary regime. Inter-signal blocking devices (UBB) will be used, installed in temporary premises for train dispatchers – it was indicated, among other things, in the prior notice.

It is also noted that the services are expected to be financed through a loan from the European Investment Bank, a grant from the European Commission and potentially a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

It is also indicated that the contracting authority intends to conduct preliminary market consultations in order to prepare the procurement and inform economic operators about its plans and procurement requirements for the modernization project of this rail corridor.

The expected date of publication of the public procurement notice within this procedure is May 18.

Let us remind that in mid-March, the Serbian Railways Infrastructure company requested a green light for the planned modernization of the section between Paracin and Trupale.
