Contract signed with Azvirt on design and construction of high-speed road Vojvodina Smile

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Aleksandra Sofronijevic and Director of the PE Corridor of Serbia Aleksandar Antic today signed a commercial contract with the Director of the Azerbaijani company Azvirt Kamil Aliyev, on the design and construction of the border crossing Backi Breg-Sombor-Kula-Vrbas-Srbobran high-speed road.

The length of this road, also known as the “Vojvodina Smile,” is about 186 kilometers and it will be designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.


It will take about 50 minutes to get from Backi Breg to Vrbas, and an hour and ten minutes from Vrbas to Srpska Crnja.

On the part of the planned high-speed road route from Sombor to Kikinda, the construction of 46 bridges, over canals and road crossings, 34 overpasses, five underpasses and 35 culverts is planned.

The construction of 12 interchanges is planned on the expressway route - Sombor, Kljajicevo, Sivac, Crvenka, Kula, Vrbas West, Vrbas North, Vrbas East, Vrbas E75, Srbobran North, Turija and Kikinda East. The construction of 13 surface roundabouts is also planned.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who attended the signing of the contract, said that the construction of the entire section would cost 240 million euros and that money had been provided for the first section from Backi Breg to Sombor, 22.8 kilometers long, and that, in the meantime, it would be provided for the remaining four sections too.

According to him, the deadline for the construction of the first section is two years, and for the entire section three years.

Vucic emphasized that Azvirt worked extremely quickly, with high quality and efficiency, and at the same time he announced the opening of the Belgrade-Baku airline.
