Two bids were received for the tender of the company EXPO 2027 d.o.o for the procurement of 50 electric buses and eight chargers, intended for the transport of passengers at the Expo location, and the most economically favorable one was submitted by the Chinese company Higer, whose vehicles are already used by GSP, the Trade Union of GSP Beograd announced.

The procurement includes 41 single and 9 bi-articulated electric buses up to 25 meters long, with more than 180 passenger seats and energy storage technology using supercapacitors, and according to the unions, the value of the project is EUR 33.2 million.

Although the buses will initially be used for the EXPO 2027 exhibition from May 15 to August 15, 2027, after the event ends, they will be permanently donated to GSP and deployed on regular lines.

– This is a strategic turning point for our GSP. These 50 eco-vehicles are not only for the needs of the EXPO exhibition, but also represent the permanent capital of the citizens of Belgrade. By introducing bi-articulated electric buses, which have not been seen on our streets so far, we will significantly increase the capacity and safety of transport on the busiest routes. For citizens, this means a significant improvement in service, and for GSP employees, job security and stable business operations, especially when we consider that electric vehicles are the future of public transport – said Ivan Bankovic, president of the GSP Beograd Centar trade union.

The project also includes the installation of eight high-power chargers at key turns, as well as the possibility of fast pantograph charging at termini.

– After the contract is signed, the chargers will be installed within five months, while all vehicles will be delivered within 10 months of signing the contract, which means that we will have vehicles and infrastructure ready for new public transport lines by the beginning of next year – Bankovic specified.

Let us remind that, as eKapija has already written, according to the tender documentation, the single buses should be low-floor city buses of class I (category M3), with an electric drive, a pantographic fast charging system at the termini, slow charging in the depot, as well as their own electricity storage system using supercapacitors.

The contracting authority requires that the offered vehicles be fully compliant with the applicable regulations of the Republic of Serbia and relevant European regulations, including UN ECE regulations and EU directive 858/2018. The selected bidder will be obliged to submit WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) documentation, as well as a COC certificate for each vehicle.

As previously stated by the director of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, Danilo Jerinic, due to the needs of visitors to the EXPO 2027 exhibition, and according to a study prepared by experts from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, seven new public transport lines will be opened in Belgrade.
