He also indicated that digging stations for the section of the first subway line would begin in April - one at the Pancevo Bridge, the other in Zeleznik, so that the machine could go underground in those places when it arrived in Belgrade.
Cuckovic said that work on the tunnel from Despota Stefana Boulevard to the Faculty of Economics should also begin in April, adding that detailed analyses of the entire area were being carried out, given that both the subway station and the tunnel would be built there.
The city manager said that, according to information from the PE Roads of Serbia, the reconstruction of the part of the Pancevo Bridge that was located on land was also imminent, while the reconstruction of the rest could take place the next year.
When it comes to other bridges, he pointed out that work would also be intensified on the old railway bridge, which will be raised three meters and then reconstructed in detail in order to be converted into a pedestrian bridge. Its elevation compared to the current level, which will begin in April, is not surprising, given that it is the lowest bridge over the Sava in Belgrade. In this phase, the worn-out parts of the bridge are currently being repaired, while in the second phase, a complete renovation is imminent. As Cuckovic said in an interview with RTS, it is expected to be completely finished by EXPO.
It is not yet known whether the Old Sava Bridge will connect the Zemun shore and Lido, but Cuckovic said that the plan was to build eight pillars at that location that will support the bridge, adding that an analysis of the steel structure that had been removed from the Old Sava Bridge was also underway.
As for the planned road-rail bridge near Vinca on the future section C of the Belgrade Bypass, as RTS reported, assessments are still being made as to whether there will be two separate bridge structures of one and a half kilometers each or one for mixed traffic. If the decision on a separate road and railway structure is adopted, as stated, they will be about 100 meters apart. If everything goes according to plan, the work of preparing the documentation could be completed in the next two and a half years, after which the construction of this Danube bridge on the Belgrade Bypass could begin.
When it comes to the construction of the sewage network on the left bank of the Danube, Cuckovic could not say when those settlements might receive a sewer system, but he stressed that the projects for the network and the treatment plant had been separated.
– In the last two days, we have had meetings regarding the preparation and signing of the contract for the construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Veliko Selo. This is a project that will cover the entire Belgrade without the left bank of the Danube, and the contract will be concluded in June, given that we have separated the work on the access connections to that plant from the plant itself – he stressed.
The same thing, he adds, has been done when it comes to the left bank. The work related to the sewage network has been separated from the work on the plant.
– A contract worth EUR 41 million has been signed with the Strabag company for the plant. The plant will be built on two hectares. This is the yellow FIDIC, which means that they are designing and building, the design is underway and we expect the construction of this facility to begin in August – said Cuckovic.
