In order to reduce congestion at toll plazas, the use of TAG devices for freight vehicles will be mandatory from April 1. The Roads of Serbia say that their plan is to gradually eliminate toll plazas with manual payment throughout the country in the future. This change will not only include category IV vehicles, but also passenger vehicles.

Namely, traditional toll plazas with staff will be replaced by a payment system that will not be visible to the human eye.

As explained by the Director of the Toll Collection Sector, Darko Savic, in the first phase this pertains only to freight vehicles, but in the future, according to the plans of the Roads of Serbia, all vehicles will pass under portals that register TAG devices, which will automatically collect the toll.

– This means that no toll station on the future highway, the construction of which has started from Belgrade to Zrenjanin, will have classic toll stations, but all vehicles will pay their tolls in this way. The same is expected for the Fruska Gora Corridor, for expressways, and this applies primarily to heavy goods vehicles. This will not be the case in the first phase for other vehicle categories. These are some of the plans of the Roads of Serbia, which is to raise the existing system, which is very efficient at 99.9% of vehicle toll collection, to an even higher level – he said.

This new feature, in addition to faster passage, should eliminate the crowds in front of the toll booths that we witness in the height of the season. Many drivers already have this device in their cars, with which they can already drive through North Macedonia, and since last year also through Montenegro and Croatia.
