– Last year, new toll stations opened on the Morava Corridor, and this year, we are looking at four more, some on the Morava Corridor, some on the Milos Veliki section – Darko Savic, the assistant executive director of the Sector for Toll Collection of the PE Roads of Serbia, said at the Tourism Fair.
He added that the number of users of electronic toll collection was growing as well – there are currently 900,000 active users, and two thirds of the trucks use tag devices.
– Nearly 50% of all vehicles which pass through the toll stations no longer stop to pay the toll with cash. Instead, it is done through electronic toll collection with the help of tags, and around 60% of the realized income is made through electronic toll collection – specified Savic, as said on the company’s website.
He also said that, in a couple of years, all drivers would be looking at a system of toll collection per kilometer traveled, direct collection, without making stops at toll stations. The employees will keep their jobs, because control of all the vehicles which are passing through will be required.
When it comes to the popularization of electronic toll collection, he reminded of the web service Toll for All, which entails toll collection payment with payment cards, without waiting at toll stations.
Serbian tag devices also work in North Macedonia and Montenegro, but there are now efforts to connect with Croatia this year. By the summer season, the north part of Greece is expected to be finished when it comes to toll collection.
