“Temporary shortening” of Fruska Gora Corridor route – No section of current highway to Kac for now

The route of the Fruska Gora Corridor, the expressway that will connect Novi Sad and Ruma, will be changed in the part that was supposed to create a direct connection of the Fruska Gora Corridor with the future Banat highway (Vojvodina P, Belgrade-Zrenjanin-Novi Sad highway).

This is stated in the Urban Planning Project for Determining the Public Interest for the Construction of a Traffic Connection of the Planned IB-Grade State Road No. 21 to the IA-Grade State Road No. 1 in Novi Sad, whose investor is the Public Enterprise Roads of Serbia and whose financier is China Road and Bridge Corporation.

According to the current planning solution defined by the Detailed Regulation Plan of the Fruska Gora Corridor, a direct connection of this expressway with the future Belgrade-Zrenjanin-Novi Sad highway via the Kac Interchange is planned in the area of the city of Novi Sad.

The newly designed solution, states the Urban Planning Project published by the Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection, involves changing the traffic solution by which the connection of the Fruska Gora Corridor with the E-75 highway via the Novi Sad-South Interchange becomes the priority direction of vehicle movement. The route of the industrial street in the interchange is being changed and a larger capacity toll station is planned.

It is noted that the connection of the future Belgrade - Zrenjanin - Novi Sad highway with the Fruska Gora Corridor via the Kac Interchange is being retained, but its implementation is not planned in the first phase of construction.

– Corridors of Serbia requested approval from the Financiers to change part of the route of the Novi Sad-Ruma expressway, i.e. to exclude part of the route from the Kac Interchange to the Novi Sad South Interchange. Approval was obtained from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure to exclude this part of the expressway from the expressway construction project. Based on all of the above, an instruction was received to submit a proposal for changes by designing a route that enables the connection of the Fruska Gora Corridor with the existing E-75 highway (state road A1) – the document states.

It is added that the changed route was designed in accordance with the Project Terms of Reference, certified by the Investor, so that the connection of the future Belgrade - Zrenjanin - Novi Sad highway with the planned expressway is achieved via the existing graded intersection on the E-75 highway (state road A1) and the future graded intersection Novi Sad South, and the possibility of building another is realized from the Kac interchange via the roundabout – to the left.

The urban design, prepared by the Public Enterprise Urbanizam Novi Sad, includes the area of the graded intersection “Novi Sad - South,” in the far eastern part of the construction area of Novi Sad, southwest of the E-75 state road, east of the “Cikos” canal.

The implementation of the urban development project is planned in four phases.

The first phase envisages, in addition to the construction of the roads, the construction of an administrative building and 3 toll booths, and the second phase involves the expansion of the toll station with an additional six toll lanes and 6 toll booths. The third phase is reserved for the construction of the fourth branch on the eastern roundabout, which will connect the Fruska Gora Corridor with the planned Belgrade - Zrenjanin - Novi Sad highway, and the fourth phase envisages the change of the traffic connection of the northern branch of the eastern roundabout to the planned road serving the facilities east of the border of the Urban Development Project. Until the construction of this road, the connection that will be carried out in the first phase will form a connection with the existing uncategorized road.
