EIB Group invests EUR 822 million in Western Balkans in 2025

In 2025, the European Investment Bank Group (EIB Group) invested EUR 822 million in the Western Balkans, mobilizing EUR 1.5 billion of new investments, it was announced today. Financing will support projects in transport, healthcare, education and energy, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).


Of this amount, EUR 664 million was provided in loans and guarantees, alongside EUR 6.5 million in investment grants under the EIB’s Economic Resilience Initiative.

In addition, EUR 151.1 million in EU grants was signed through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).

Sustainable transport accounted for 58% of total investment, followed by healthcare (20%) and renewable energy (13%), the EIB says in the press release.
