Preparatory works for construction of Bistrica RHPP to begin this year – Construction permit for main works next year

Preparatory works for the construction of the Bistrica reversible hydropower plant will begin this year, while the construction permit for the main works is expected in 2027, said the Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

– We need clear financing frameworks and the dynamics of the next steps from our Japanese partners, in order to enter the implementation phase as soon as possible, which I emphasized in a conversation with the delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by JICA Director for Europe Takahiro Goto – Djedovic Handanovic pointed out on Instagram.

The Minister emphasized that the Bistrica RHPP was a strategically important project for the energy stability of Serbia.

– The construction of this power plant greatly affects the integration of production from solar and wind power plants that are under construction or their construction is planned. This makes the construction of Bistrica, as a “natural battery” for energy storage, particularly important for achieving goals in the decarbonization process – Djedovic Handanovic pointed out.
