RES Serbia analysis: Number of prosumers in Serbia increased by 61% in one year

A RES Serbia analysis shows that the number of prosumers in Serbia has increased by 61% in one year. 5,832 prosumers with a total installed capacity of more than 120.38 MW have been registered in the Prosumer Register of Elektrodistribucija Srbije. The growth in the number and installed capacity of prosumers is also shown by the fact that, last November, more than 74.8 MW were registered, which represents an increase of 61%.



The number of electricity producers-consumers in Serbia is constantly growing, as evidenced by the fact that the number of prosumers has increased by 61% in one year.

Currently, 5,832 prosumers with a total installed capacity of more than 120.38 MW have been registered in the Prosumer Register of Elektrodistribucija Srbije. The growth trend is also confirmed by the fact that, last year in November, more than 74.8 MW were registered, which is an increase of 61%.

The most numerous in the prosumer category are households, which recorded a growth of more than 50% in one year. The analysis of RES Serbia also shows that the people of Vojvodina are the most interested in the production of electricity from renewable sources, and Presevo and Bosilegrad received their first prosumers.

Interest among housing communities is still low. In one year, only three new housing communities, from Belgrade and Kragujevac, became prosumers, and now there are six in total.

The largest individual prosumer in all categories is PESTAN DOO BUKOVIK with a capacity of 8 MW.

Vojvodina leads in the number of households-prosumers

In the past year, a significant growth in buyer-producers has been noticeable, especially in the Households category. Some local government units (LGUs) have also received their first prosumers, such as Presevo and Bosilegrad, but there is still a noticeable disparity between statistical regions in terms of prosumers from the Household category.

The largest group is made up of Household prosumers, currently numbering 4,248 with an installed capacity of 35.48 MW. Compared to November last year, when there were 2,811 households with 22.84 MW, there was a 51.1% increase in the number of users and 55.3% in installed capacity. This jump indicates the increasing interest of citizens in producing electricity from renewable sources, mainly through solar panels.

Vojvodina leads in the number of prosumer households, with 1,547 registered users, which makes up 36.42% of the total number. This is followed by Eastern and Southern Serbia with 1,170 households (27.60%), Sumadija and Western Serbia with 787 (18.52%) and Belgrade with 742 households (17.47%).

However, some municipalities, such as Crna Trava, Trgoviste and Bela Palanka, still do not have a single registered prosumer in this category.



The largest total installed capacity among prosumers is held by producers-consumers from the Other producers-consumers category, of which there are currently 1,578 with a total of 84.8 MW of installed capacity.

The largest individual prosumer in all categories is PESTAN DOO BUKOVIK with a capacity of 8 MW, followed by Toyo Tire Serbia doo Indjija (7.5 MW) and Henkel Srbija doo Belgrade (5 MW). Other prosumers in this category have significantly smaller installed capacities, but there are several others with above 1 MW of installed capacity.

The company NIS a.d. Novi Sad is registered in the Prosumer Register a total of 76 times, with a total installed capacity of 2,829.6 kW, located at gas stations throughout Serbia.

Religious buildings also involved in the energy transition

Educational institutions in Serbia are becoming interested in electricity production. There are 20 schools and seven kindergartens in Serbia with the status of electricity buyer-producer. The total installed capacity of all school buildings registered in the Register of Prosumers of Elektrodistribucija Srbije is 795.7 kW, and kindergartens are 198.45 kW.

In this way, educational institutions, in addition to their key role in the education and development of young people, are becoming active promoters of sustainable development. They raise awareness of the importance of renewable energy sources and show how every institution can contribute to the fight against climate change and the construction of a sustainable future.

Interestingly, religious buildings are also actively involved in the energy transition of Serbia, with a total capacity of solar power plants of 389.59 kW. The largest prosumer is the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Zica with an installed capacity of 50 kW.



In one year, only three new housing associations became prosumers

In the past year, the number of housing associations registered as prosumers increased from three to six, with a total installed capacity of 99.2 kW. After Subotica, Pancevo and Nis, which were the first to receive registered communities, this year, two more housing associations from Belgrade and one from Kragujevac joined the list.
