The management of the gas infrastructure will be entrusted to a new company, while Srbijagas will continue to supply the market with gas, and this will be its main role in the future, said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic after an extraordinary session of the Serbian Government.

– This is something we have already done in the electricity sector, where we have separate companies that deal with electricity transmission, production and distribution. Now we are doing the same in the gas sector, and this is a reform process that will primarily contribute to making the sector more regulated, and to being more secure in the future in terms of both the construction of new gas pipelines and gas supply – said Djedovic Handanovic, as reported by RTS.

She added that the government was also considering adopting laws on oil, gas and mandatory reserves, as well as purchasing additional quantities of gasoline and diesel.

– I would like to remind you that in the past two and a half years we have increased the amount of Eurodiesel alone by 70,600 tons. We have created the conditions to be even safer in case of unforeseen situations, but we are continuing with 38,000 tons of gasoline, as well as an additional 66,000 tons of diesel – said Djedovic Handanovic.

Aiming to diversify gas sources

The minister stated that the filling of the reservoir in Smederevo, which should soon receive an operating permit, should begin.

– Let me just clarify as far as gas is concerned, this has nothing to do with oil or the Russian arrangement, it has to do with harmonizing our legal framework when it comes to the gas sector, primarily with European Union standards, all with the aim of being as safe as possible and ensuring that our country has the conditions to have enough energy sources, primarily gas – the minister stated.

She added that Serbia’s goal was to diversify gas sources.

– That is why we are building new gas interconnections with both North Macedonia and Romania, in addition to the ones we have already built with Bulgaria, so that we will have more sources in the future and so that we can negotiate with multiple parties and reach the best possible conditions for our country – said Djedovic Handanovic.
