– Serbia is also working on expanding gas storage capacities. Our country is located at the crossroads of energy routes in the region, and the best way to use this position is through connections with other countries in Southeast Europe. As a country with eight borders, we have the opportunity to be a transit corridor for electricity transmission, but also to play a significant role in gas transport to Central European countries – she stated.
Joksimovic, participating in the panel on decarbonization, said that Serbia’s commitment was to improve energy security through the development of production capacities, intensive investments in energy infrastructure and strengthening regional connectivity.
– Working on increasing electricity production capacities, Serbia is focused primarily on the use of hydropower and solar and wind potential. The strategic project RHPP Bistrica, with a capacity of about 650 MW, which is under preparation, is important for us to be able to balance the increased production of energy from RES. In the past two years, wind and solar capacities have increased by 83%, which brings us closer to the strategic goal defined by the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, to have 45% of electricity produced from RES by 2030 – said Joksimovic.
She also added that Serbia was the first in the region to meet the conditions for connecting to the EU market and that she expected it to be among the first to implement the connection to the EU electricity market, namely with Hungary.
