Preparation of documentation for gas interconnector between Serbia and North Macedonia in final phase – Construction to be completed in 2027, commissioning in 2028

The feasibility study for the gas interconnector between Serbia and North Macedonia has been completed, while the preparation of project and technical documentation is in the final stage, the Ministry of Mining and Energy announced after a meeting in Skopje between representatives of this ministry, Jovana Joksimovic, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and European Integration, and Sasa Kokovic, Acting Assistant Minister for Oil and Gas, with Sanja Bozinovska, Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia.

– The construction of the interconnector is expected to be completed by 2027, while commissioning is planned for 2028 – said Kokovic.

Joksimovic emphasized that the construction of the gas interconnector was of strategic importance for strengthening the energy stability not only of the Republic of Serbia but also of the entire region.

– Security of gas supply is directly linked to the diversification of supply routes and sources, including the further development of the transport system – Joksimovic emphasized.

As stated, the project should be implemented at an accelerated pace, in order to enable the connection of the gas systems of the two countries and access to new gas sources.

The aim of the Serbia - North Macedonia gas interconnector project is to establish a two-way connection for the transport of natural gas between the two countries, which will enable access to new sources of supply. The length of the gas pipeline will be approximately 70 kilometers (47 kilometers in Serbia and 23 kilometers in North Macedonia). In North Macedonia, it will be connected to the existing gas pipeline near Klecovac, and in Serbia, to the gas pipeline in Vranje.
