Relocation of railroad necessary due to expansion of mining activities in Bor – New route with 3.5 km tunnel and bridge

The Serbian Railway Infrastructure company has submitted a request to the Ministry of Environmental Protection for a decision on the need for an environmental impact assessment of the phase-based construction and relocation of part of the rail line no. 218 Mala Krsna-Bor-Rasputnica 2 (Vrazogrnac), on the section through the Jama Bor zone. The request was prepared by the Institute of Transportation CIP.

This is a section of the railroad from the km 216+577.77 point to the Bor-passenger station, with a total length of 4.62 kilometers.

The relocation is necessary due to the continuation of copper ore exploitation in the Jama mine, as part of the plans of the Serbia ZiJin Copper company, but also due to the safety risks posed to the existing route by the old open-pit mine in Bor.

Two tunnels are planned on the section. Tunnel T1, 561 m long (from km 216+937 to km 217+498), with accompanying evacuation plateaus and power units, and Tunnel T2, 3,569 m long (from km 217+601 to km 221+170), with a parallel evacuation tunnel 2,526 m long and a vertical evacuation exit.

In addition to the tunnel, a new single-track rail bridge 29 m long has been designed, at km 217+563.33, with which the railroad will bridge the Valja Dosuli stream and the ravine. The bridge will be constructed as a three-span reinforced concrete structure.

The planned speed on this section will be 80 km/h.
