Reconstruction of road-rail bridge over Velika Morava River on Markovac-Resavica railroad line planned – Tender for preliminary design opened

The road-rail bridge over the Velika Morava on the Markovac–Svilajnac–Despotovac-Resavica railroad line is about to undergo a detailed reconstruction, and in response, the Serbian Railway Infrastructure company has announced a tender for the development of a preliminary design and preliminary project.

As specified in the tender documentation, in the October 2023 study on the inspection of this bridge, emergency damage to the structure was observed, which jeopardized the load-bearing capacity and usability of the structure, and therefore the bridge.

– Due to the above, an emergency maintenance project has been developed in the meantime - the rehabilitation of the K1 structure in February 2024. In June of this year, the Republic Inspection for State Roads of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure issued a decision to suspend traffic on the bridge – the documentation indicates.

The existing road-rail bridge consists of four structures, and its total length is 249.8 meters.

– It is necessary to prepare project documentation so that road traffic is eliminated, and only rail traffic is retained over the bridge, which envisages the rehabilitation of the pillars and the complete replacement of the existing one with a new steel structure. The subject of the project documentation is the superstructure on the bridge and the reconstruction of the track in front of and behind the bridge to fit into the bridge and the rehabilitation of the superstructure in the worn-out areas of the section in question – the documentation explains.
