– I remember the words of the deputy director of the International Atomic Energy Agency during a visit to the institute. He said that the Chinese used to learn from us. And where are they now, and where are we? We must not lose track anymore – said Dimovic in an interview with Politika.
He stated that “the fact that the construction of a nuclear power plant could begin only in 10 to 15 years does not mean that we should not seriously consider it now.”
– We do not have the luxury of waiting, but we have a responsibility towards future generations to bequeath clean and safe sources of energy to them – said Dimovic.
He stressed that there would be a constant dialogue with the public, because without the trust of citizens, no nuclear program could be successful in the long term. According to him, the introduction of nuclear energy into Serbia’s energy mix would not mean giving up on renewable sources, but rather supplementing them with a reliable source of baseload energy.
He pointed out that this would ensure the stability of the electricity system, security of supply and competitive electricity prices for the economy and citizens, without relying on uncertain imports.
