Vucic: Danube bridge 70% complete, opening before end-2026

The Danube Bridge near Petrovaradin is 70% complete, we will connect it in April and open it before the end of 2026, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during a tour of the construction works of the bridge, which is part of the Fruska Gora Corridor, that is, the expressway from Novi Sad to Ruma.

– Our Chinese companies are working very well, and before the end of the year they will finish excavating both tubes of the Fruska Gora Corridor, 7 km long, and these are double tubes. This is a great feat for Serbia because it will be the longest corridor in Serbia. We are opening everything by the end of 2026 for EXPO. Only the part around Paragovo will remain unfinished, but it will also be finished by the end of 2027. When Zrenjanin-Loznica is completed, when we connect the northeast and west of the country - before, it would take you almost 4 hours to get to Zrenjanin, and now it will not take you not even an hour and 50 minutes from Zrenjanin to Loznica. I am glad that we are connecting both Backa and Banat – said Vucic.

He added that the Novi Sad-Subotica railway line would open not long after, and Belgrade-Subotica too, for freight traffic.

– By the end of the year, we will open almost 30 kilometers of the expressway, the so-called Danube Highway, from the highway to Pozarevac, and now we are going for Pozarevac-Gradiste-Golubac. This will once again connect the Branicevo District with the Bor District, Belgrade and all of Serbia – said Vucic.

The Fruska Gora Corridor is part of the Novi Sad-Ruma-Sabac-Loznica-border with Bosnia and Herzegovina road route.

The route will include the longest tunnel in Serbia, Iriski venac, 3.5 kilometers long, as well as the largest bridge on the Danube in Petrovaradin, at 1,663 meters.

Construction of the Fruska Gora Corridor began on May 1, 2021, and the route is divided into four sections.

According to the data of the PE Corridors of Serbia, 930 workers and 285 units of machinery and equipment are currently engaged in the works within the Fruska Gora Corridor, of which 108 workers and 54 units of machinery and equipment are engaged on the bridge.
