Both parties, as emphasized, aim to jointly develop an air logistics corridor connecting Serbia, China and Europe and to fully utilize the favorable position of Urumqi as an international aviation hub.
The agreement was signed by Mihajlo Zdravkovic, Director of Aerodromi Srbije, and Tao Runwen, Chairman of the Board of the Xinjiang Airport Group.
– The joint message we are sending from Urumqi and Nis is that both sides believe that there is strong potential for cooperation in the field of cargo transport, that there is also room for expanding routes. These two airports will be gateways for the regions in which they are located, playing a vital role in regional connectivity and logistics development – the statement reads.
The signing of the agreement and working meetings at the two-day event in China were a prelude to the joint farewell of the first cargo flight of the Boeing 767 aircraft, which landed at Nis airport on Thursday evening with a traditional water salute.
The plan is to transport as many as 50 tons of goods from China per flight, in accordance with the transport needs.
In this way, the Nis airport is positioned as a hub for the entire Balkans, because these goods will be further distributed through domestic companies in the field of transport and logistics to Serbia, but also to North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
