Production at Mercury.AI’s new factory in Jagodina is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, said Jelena Mitic, the company’s business development manager, in an interview with the specialized portal a&s at the recent Security Essen trade fair in Germany.

Mercury.AI, a Serbian company that develops video surveillance equipment, a VMS platform, and AI-based analytics, is building a factory in Jagodina as part of a strategy to consolidate software development, hardware development and manufacturing within Europe as much as possible.

– Our products are developed by our own R&D teams, and our strategy is to establish production in Europe – Mitic told a&s.

As she noted, the company aims to gain greater control over the entire process - from research and development, through software and hardware, to final production. Key components are sourced from suppliers via a partner network, while the company also focuses on meeting regulatory requirements and obtaining the necessary certifications for the markets in which it operates.

AI analytics being developed in Belgrade

Mercury.AI began as a software development company before expanding its operations to include a VMS platform and its own cameras. According to Mitic, AI analytics are developed by the company’s R&D team in Belgrade and operate within its proprietary VMS system and NVR devices.

The company also notes that its analytics are not limited to its own hardware. Its solutions are compatible with cameras from other manufacturers and support various protocols, enabling users to implement AI functionalities without completely replacing existing infrastructure.

Mercury.AI’s AI analytics portfolio includes, among other features, the detection of weapons, fire and smoke, facial recognition, human and vehicle detection, people counting, intrusion and perimeter breach detection, license plate recognition and the detection of protective gear and aggressive behavior.

From retail stores to smart city projects

The company states that it aims to offer its solutions to clients of all sizes - ranging from small retail outlets to large-scale government projects.

One of the projects currently underway is a smart city initiative in Belgrade, Mitic told a&s.

At the same time, Mercury.AI is in the final stages of establishing a presence in the US market, a move the company views as a crucial step in its international expansion.

The new factory in Jagodina is part of this same expansion strategy. Mercury.AI aims to position itself as a European manufacturer of security technology, combining in-house software and AI analytics development with hardware manufacturing.

The company previously announced that the Jagodina facility would span approximately 22,000 square meters and that the project is expected to create more than 700 new jobs.
