Reconstruction of railroad between Vrbas and Sombor planned – EUR 311 million needed for this job

The state should consider renovating the Vrbas-Sombor railroad, which is in poor condition and on which the train travels at 30 kilometers per hour. The reconstruction of 53 km of this railroad requires 311 million euros, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

– This should be discussed, within what we’ve started talking about with the Chinese, and see what to do with Uzbekistan, but the thing with the Chinese, we should see about the thing in Banat, so, Pancevo-Zrenjanin-Kikinda-Subotica, and then it has to be Subotica-Sombor, and then Sombor-Vrbas and up to Bogojevo – said Vucic.

Asked whether he would talk to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, about these infrastructure projects, Vucic replied that he would talk about that, among other things.

– They are excellent at it, they work quickly, they bring in workers, they do it. They rely on domestic companies to help, but as far as the speed of work is concerned, they come, they build a campus, they do it quickly – said Vucic.

He emphasized that he wanted Serbia to build a modern rail network.

– We have Belgrade-Subotica, Budapest, there will be Belgrade-Nis, but that is nothing if in the meantime you do not build a network from Krusevac to Djunis and Stalac. This is the backbone. And now you are developing ribs around it or building arteries, main blood vessels, but you have to have a complete venous system around it and build everything else – Vucic emphasized.

He added that at least two billion euros were needed to complete all these projects.

– And Valjevo-Vrbnica remains, it has to be done via Kosjeric, Pozega, Uzice, all the way down to Prijepolje. You also need a railroad towards Tabanovac, towards the border with North Macedonia – Vucic assessed.

He pointed out that work on the Djunis-Stalac railroad, about 20 kilometers long, would begin in March, and that Serbia had agreed to reconstruct the 97-kilometer railway to Sid, in order to increase train speed to 120 kilometers per hour.
