As announced by the Ministry of Finance, by connecting the Central Securities, Depository and Clearing House and Euroclear Bank, the Serbian dinar government bond market will gain a direct connection with the international investment infrastructure, making domestic government securities more accessible to global investors.
– It will be possible to trade, i.e. clear and settle, five existing (not yet matured) dinar bonds of the Republic of Serbia within the framework of Euroclear Bank, as well as certain government bonds that will be issued in accordance with the issuance decisions – the ministry stated.
Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali stated that by implementing this project, Serbia was taking an important step from a domestic to an internationally integrated government securities market.
– Our goal is not only to increase the number of investors, but we also want to build a more liquid and efficient dinar government bond market, which will provide us with even better financing conditions. Greater availability, higher demand and greater liquidity create the basis for more competitive yields and, in the long term, lower costs of government borrowing – said Mali.
He added that this connection was also down to the fact that Serbia had an investment rating, which further increased the attractiveness of Serbian government securities for the global investment community.
The process of connecting the domestic capital market infrastructure with the international financial system was launched, as he stated, in 2019.
– After many years of work by the Ministry of Finance, the Central Securities Depository, the National Bank of Serbia and international partners, the project is now entering the full implementation phase. As of September 1, 2026, international investors will be able to hold and settle long-term government bonds of the Republic of Serbia denominated in dinars through their accounts at Euroclear Bank – the ministry pointed out.
