Minister Sara Pavkov emphasized that these funds had been provided through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), an important mechanism of the European Union and international financial institutions for the development of infrastructure and the implementation of projects in the Western Balkan countries.
– This grant will enable us to improve the waste management system in three regions of Serbia: in the Pirot, Kolubara and Macva districts. Thanks to this grant, around 800,000 citizens will directly benefit, as they will no longer have unsanitary landfills in their local governments – said Pavkov.
The Minister emphasized that the grant would provide additional energy for improving the waste management system, in accordance with the highest European standards.
– Thanks to this contract, we will provide project and technical documentation for the rehabilitation of these 17 sites, namely in Lajkovac, Ljig, Osecina, Ub, Koceljeva, Vladimirci, Obrenovac, Lazarevac, Loznica and Krupanj, in the “Eko-Tamnava” region, then in Bogatic and Sid, in the region covered by the RC Srem-Macva, as well as in Pirot, Babusnica, Dimitrovgrad and Bela Palanka, which belong to the Pirot Regional Landfill. We will continue to use such European Union instruments in the form of grants, and even more so to encourage local governments to be more persistent and provide such funds for a better and cleaner environment – said Pavkov.
