The tender for the overhaul of CAF trams (popularly known as “Spanish trams”), announced in mid-June, has been officially suspended due to a complaint filed for the protection of bidders’ rights.

Let us remind that the tender announced by GSP Beograd in June included 29 trams, and the estimated value of the procurement is 5,274,000,000 dinars or around EUR 44.5 million.

The Center for Local Self-Government also reacted to the suspension of this tender, stating that this is a major blow to the people of Belgrade, because, after the cancellation of the contract for 85 short trams and the problems experienced by the new Turkish Bozankaya trams, “the losing streak continues with the suspension of the overhaul of the Spanish trams.”

– CLS sources from engineering circles indicate that the tender was poorly prepared, that the largest factories and repair centers were not informed in time, and that the work is again being done in a reckless and amateurish manner, and it’s not hard to speculate about the motives for this – stated Nikola Jovanovic, director of the Center for Local Self-Government.
