Serbia has three times more installed RES capacity than in 2022, but it is necessary to carefully consider the network development model and the integration of renewable energy sources into the transmission and distribution system, said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic during a conversation with representatives of the Renewable Energy Association of Serbia about the state of the RES industry in Serbia and improving its position in accordance with current regulations.

As she said, over time, Serbia has had different cycles in the development of RES, and in the last four years a good impulse has been given, which has resulted in the fact that today we have three times more installed RES capacity than four years ago.

– We are adapting the legal framework and regulations, they have evolved and we are trying to use the regulatory framework to sufficiently encourage the development of RES without it endangering the energy infrastructure and stability of our network. The state now has 12 GW of requests for connection to the transmission system, and six GW of requests for the distribution system, but it is necessary to take into account the development model in order to ensure a balanced approach in accordance with the state’s strategic interests, primarily energy security – said the minister.

Djedovic Handanovic reminded that preparations for the RHPP Bistrica and Djerdap 3 were progressing.

– By building reversible hydropower plants, we will ensure faster and easier integration of RES capacity, but until these plants are built, we must take into account what the transmission and distribution system operators determine as a potential risk, which inevitably reflects on our regulatory framework – stated Djedovic Handanovic.

She emphasized that the relevant ministry would continue cooperation with the renewable energy industry through active dialogue.

– In the coming period, it is necessary to conduct analyses with the transmission system operator and with investors in the RES sector in order to harmonize the legal understanding and implementation in practice without changing the existing regulation – concluded the minister.

In addition to representatives of the RES Association, the meeting was attended by representatives of the companies Enlight, Masdar Taaleri Generation, Elicio, Alcazar Energy, Fortis Energy, New Energy Solutions.
