Holcim, a Swiss giant with a long-standing presence in Serbia, has taken over Xella Group, the company behind some of the most famous construction products. With it, it also became the owner of the famous Apatin-based construction company Rapid.

Among the announcements from the Belgrade Stock Exchange yesterday was the one about a significant stake in Rapid. Holcim became the owner of 238,747 shares of the Apatin-based company, which accounts for 73.15% of the votes. And the explanation states that this is based on the agreement on the sale of shares in the companies LSF10 XL Investments and LSF10 XL Gp, which was concluded in October last year, and which were purchased by Holcim.

By taking over Xella Group, Holcim also took over 10 companies. Among them is Xella Srbija Vreoci, which held 238,747 shares of Rapid.

The Rapid company has been producing bricks for six decades, and has been operating as an open joint-stock company since 1991. Its main activity is the production of facade silicate bricks. At the end of last year, it was a joint-stock company owned by 1,532 shareholders who own a total of 326,372 shares.

In February 2021, the company’s ownership structure changed due to the purchase by Xella Srbija d.o.o. Vreoci of 70% of the shares that were owned by individual small shareholders. During 2022, Xella Srbija d.o.o. Vreoci purchased 3.15% of the company’s shares in the amount of 3.1 million dinars, as can be seen from the notes to the financial report.

As reported by the media, Holcim allocated EUR 1.85 billion for the acquisition.
