The Director of the Science and Technology Park (STP) in Nis, Milan Randjelovic, has stated that a public call for applications for members to the new STP facility, whose construction is nearing completion, is underway. He told Beta that the plan was for some companies and institutions to start using the space in the second half of September.

– Construction work in the new NTP facility has been completed and various systems in the facility are currently being tested, and we are preparing to equip the building. We plan to do this during the summer – Randjelovic emphasized.

According to him, the new STP facility will have a large space for startup companies to work in and a large number of laboratories that will be available to both companies and faculties.

– They will be predominantly from the fields of electronics, mechatronics, robotics and the IT sector – Randjelovic stated.

He said that it would be known in the next period which laboratories would be opened, because the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) had hired consultants who, together with NTP, companies and faculties, would determine which equipment for laboratories was most necessary.

The money for the laboratories, added Randjelovic, was provided as part of the STP construction project.

Randjelovic reminded that the expansion of the STP enabled a significant increase in capacity, from the current 5,000 square meters to around 15,000 square meters of space intended for companies.

– More than 500 people currently work in the companies located in the existing building, while another 1,000 people are expected to be employed after the expansion is completed – said Randjelovic.

According to him, the new space will also be dominated by startup companies, which should make up around two-thirds of the membership, while the rest will be made up of development centers and technology-development companies.

Construction of the second STP building began in February 2024, and during the groundbreaking ceremony, it was announced that EUR 25 million would be invested in the facility.

The new facility will have almost 9,000 square meters of office space, while laboratories will be located on 1,000 square meters.

The construction is being financed by the Government of Serbia and the EBRD.
