Future TechNis to include institutes for energy transition and regenerative medicine and center for defense technologies and cybersecurity

With the construction of a new facility, the Science and Technology Park Nis will gain capacity for around 1,500 experts, and the plan is for this space to become a place to attract and open development centers of global technology companies, as well as for the establishment of new research institutes and modern laboratories, said the director of STP Nis, Milan Randjelovic.

He indicated that the focus of operations in the facility, which should be built and equipped in the second quarter of 2026, would be on the areas of digital economy, artificial intelligence, robotics, regenerative medicine and energy.

– The construction of new capacities is part of a broader strategic capacity development of the Nis Innovation District - TechNis, which is conceived as a strategic development project that relies on the existing infrastructure of the University of Nis, including three technical faculties, academies of professional studies, the University Settlement and a student dormitory, as well as three secondary technical schools – he told the Politika daily.

– The development plan until 2035 envisages further expansion of university capacities through the inclusion of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education – Randjelovic pointed out.

The plan also includes the establishment of new institutions such as the Institute for Energy Transition and the Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the development of open research and development infrastructure, a center for defense technologies and cybersecurity, as well as a national data center.

– The goal of this concept is to create a functional innovation ecosystem in which education, science and economy are physically and organizationally connected, thereby positioning Nis as one of the key centers of digital economy and technological development in this part of Europe – emphasized Randjelovic.
