Government launches spatial plan for Cukaru Peki and Malka Golaja mining complex

The Government of Serbia has decided to develop a spatial plan for the special purpose area of the Cukaru Peki and Malka Golaja mining and metallurgical complex, thus starting the planning preparation for the further development of one of the largest mining areas in the country.

The scope of the plan extends to parts of the territories of the cities of Bor and Zajecar. In the Bor area, the entire cadastral municipalities of Slatina, Metovnica, Donja Bela Reka and Ostrelj are included, as well as parts of the cadastral municipalities of Brestovac and Sarbanovac. In the territory of Zajecar, the plan includes the entire cadastral municipality of Nikolicevo and part of the cadastral municipality of Zvezdan, while the final border will be defined in the draft plan.

As stated in the decision, the goal of the spatial plan is to ensure conditions for the development of the mining and metallurgical complex in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and integrated spatial planning. The document will contain a detailed elaboration of the planned purposes, which will enable its direct implementation through the issuance of location conditions.

The deadline for the development of the draft spatial plan is 12 months from the entry into force of the decision, and the funds for its development will be provided by the company Serbia Zijin Mining doo Bor. The responsible party for the development of the plan is the Agency for Spatial and Urban Planning of the Republic of Serbia.

During the development of the plan, a Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment will be developed, as well as a Study on the Protection of Immovable Cultural Property, in accordance with the opinion obtained from the Ministry of Culture.

Upon completion of the development, the draft spatial plan will be displayed for public inspection for 30 days in the city administration buildings of Bor and Zajecar.
