Transport and logistics are much more than just supporting the economy; they are becoming a key factor in the competitiveness, development and resilience of the economy. In a time of accelerated change, digitalization and increasing demands for efficiency, companies and states are looking for smarter, faster and more sustainable solutions for the movement of goods and people. These are precisely the topics that the new special edition newsletter of the eKapija business portal “The Engine Driving the Economy - Fast, Smart, Sustainable” deals with, through analyses, examples of good practice and insights into the trends that shape the future of the transport and logistics sector.

While the global automotive industry is rapidly transitioning to sustainable technologies, the domestic market is also entering a phase of more intense transformation. In this context, the newly established company NMP Automotive is positioning itself as an important player in the development of green mobility in Western Serbia, taking on the role of general dealer and authorized repairer of BYD brand vehicles for the territory of Macva. NMP Automotive recognizes this trend and is developing a business model that combines sales, service support and long-term market development.

Every company has its own area of expertise - a product it develops, a service it improves, a market it conquers. Logistics rarely falls into that area, but almost always falls into everyday operations. And that is where the problem arises. Not because transport is not working, or customs is late, or something is not right in the warehouse - but because these functions too often function separately. Union Sped provides an answer to this problem.

West Truck, the oldest member of the renowned West Group business system, is a leader in the sale and servicing of commercial vehicles on the territory of Serbia and Montenegro. Over the course of two decades of business, West Truck has established strategic partnerships with leading global brands, and within its diverse portfolio and rich offer, Piaggio brand vehicles stand out in particular, representing a modern, economical and efficient solution for professional transport in urban and regional business conditions.

In line with the trends of accelerated digitalization and automation of logistics processes, TPSX is further expanding its portfolio by introducing advanced robotic systems for pallet management in rack warehouses. These solutions enable significant improvements in efficiency, optimal use of space and reduction of operating costs, making them a key element of modern logistics and distribution centers.

Centrosinergija is one of the leading distribution and logistics companies in Serbia, which through continuous investments in digitalization, automation and optimization of processes is actively improving its business and setting industry standards. As part of Moj Kiosk Group, the company manages a complex logistics network that includes the central distribution center in Makis and a network of regional centers, with daily distribution of goods to more than 16,500 retail stores across Serbia.

The war between Iran and the alliance led by the United States of America and Israel, as well as the incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, have already caused serious disruptions in the global energy system. About a fifth of the world’s oil passes through this strategic route, so any escalation in the Persian Gulf region has a direct impact on energy prices, inflationary trends and supply chains around the world. As Dragoljub Rajic, director of the Southeast European Railway Cluster, told eKapija, although the Western Balkans are currently in a zone of limited direct influence, the consequences are already being felt through a slight but continuous increase in oil product prices and disruptions in the deliveries of certain raw materials.

Belgrade has been facing increasing traffic congestion for years, which is not only due to the increase in the number of vehicles, but also to the way the city was planned, built and managed. While European metropolises have recorded examples of cities without traffic fatalities, such as Vienna or Helsinki, Belgrade is still talking about stagnation and occasional positive trends in traffic safety. Dr. Emir Smailovic, professor at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade, discusses why Belgrade lags behind European practices and where the key systemic problems lie.

The lack of professional drivers, hours-long waits at the borders and new European Union rules are becoming a serious test for the transport sector in the Western Balkans region. The announced full implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), i.e. the electronic system for recording entry and exit from the Schengen area, as well as the strict application of the 90/180-day residence rule for professional drivers, are causing particular concern among transport operators. Representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Chamber of Commerce of Republika Srpska provide an overview of the current situation and proposals for possible solutions for eKapija.

The digitalization of goods transport has been moving slower than the market requires for years, but it is precisely in this area that game-changing solutions are emerging. One of these is Ictransport.app - an integrated digital platform developed for the needs of transport and logistics companies operating in the European market.

We have also prepared an overview of the most significant trends in global logistics for 2026.
