Japan’s response for continuation of preparation of tender for RHPP Bistrica by end of month

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic spoke yesterday with the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan Naohiro Tsutsumi about cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.

Djedovic Handanovic emphasized that Japan was one of Serbia’s most important partners in projects in the field of security of supply and energy transition, stating that the support of the Japanese Government was important for Serbia in order to accelerate the RHPP Bistrica construction project.

She expressed the expectation that, in the current year, with the support of the Japanese side, the greatest progress could be made in the development of that project and that most of the procedures could be completed, especially regarding financing the construction.

Djedovic Handanovic also expressed her belief that the procedures with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) would be implemented more efficiently in the future.

The minister stated that Serbia had worked intensively on the preparation of project and technical documentation, in line with the requirements of the Japanese side.

By the end of the month, as she announced, responses from Japanese colleagues are expected in order to continue the activities of preparing tender documentation, i.e. to define the structure of financing the works and to be ready to begin construction of the main power plant facility in 2027.

Djedovic Handanovic assessed that RHPP Bistrica was necessary for Serbia to progress in the energy transition, integrate new capacities from renewable energy sources into the system, but also increase the security of supply in the country.
