Engine of economy and bearer of comfort that we rarely think about

It only takes a few clicks to deliver groceries, a new jacket, an office chair or a sofa for the living room to our home address. We are used to goods arriving on time and seamlessly, as if the journey from the warehouse to our door is taken for granted. We rarely think about how many people, kilometers, containers, pallets, procedures and precise coordination are behind the way of life we ​​are used to.

The region of the Western Balkans felt this again at the beginning of the year, when blockades of freight border crossings due to disputes over the treatment of professional drivers and new EU procedures showed how quickly a logistical problem turns into an economic one. According to the estimates of business associations and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the direct damage to the region`s economy based only on the export of goods amounted to about EUR 100 million per day, not including penalties and additional company costs.

The conversation about transport has long been no longer a topic of interest only to carriers and logisticians. It concerns industry, commerce, investments and modern life. Because when trucks stop, not only traffic slows down, but the entire economy. And this perhaps best explains why logistics and transportation are really the engine that drives the economy.
