State planning to speed up rail traffic through northern Serbia – Tender for new railroad bypass, track renewal and station reconstruction near Bogojevo being prepared

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has launched an early market engagement phase for an infrastructure project to modernize the railroad network in northwestern Serbia, which includes the construction of a new connection between the Subotica-Bogojevo-state border railroad and the Novi Sad-Odzaci-Bogojevo railroad, along with the reconstruction of the Bogojevo railroad station.

The project is part of a broader railroad sector modernization program that is being implemented with the support of the World Bank and the French Development Agency.

The goal of this phase is to check market readiness, contractor capacity and receive feedback on the planned technical and qualification requirements, as well as the “design & build” implementation model according to the FIDIC Yellow Book, before launching the tender.

According to the documentation, the construction of a new single-track bypass connection, approximately 1.41 km long, is planned, which would enable direct movement of trains between Novi Sad and Subotica, without entering the Bogojevo station. This would, as stated, significantly shorten travel time and increase operational efficiency, especially when it comes to freight traffic.

In addition to the new connection, the project also includes the reconstruction of approximately 1.65 km of the Subotica-Bogojevo railroad, 1.45 km of the Novi Sad-Bogojevo railroad, the reconstruction of seven station tracks, the modernization of signaling, safety and telecommunications systems, as well as the reconstruction of level crossings and culverts.

The investor plans to hire a contractor that will simultaneously develop a project for a construction permit and carry out the works.

The deadline for submitting the questionnaire and applying for participation in the market consultation is April 27, and more details can be found HERE. The Ministry has stated that participation in this phase is not part of the procurement procedure and does not affect the future evaluation of bidders.
