Construction of Nis Data Center to start at end of this year or beginning of 2027 – Plan to use waste heat energy from this complex for heating households

Nis should soon get a modern Data Center, the construction of which, according to announcements from the city, could begin at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

As Ivan Blagojevic, a member of the Nis City Council, said, a plot within the “Tehnis” complex, on the site of the current barracks, has been determined as the location for the future data center, while discussions with the Ministry of Defense are underway on changing the land use and drafting a new General Urban Plan.

In addition to its importance for the development of IT infrastructure and attracting investments, the project could also bring energy benefits to citizens. The plan is to use waste heat energy from the data center for heating households.

According to Blagojevic, the maximum capacity of the center would be 20 megawatts, and the estimated value of the investment would be around EUR 50 million. Based on European experiences, this capacity could enable heating between 5,000 and 8,000 apartments in Nis in the future.
