The European wind energy market continued to grow in 2025, but with clear differences between onshore and offshore wind farms. According to a report by the leading wind association WindEurope, a total of 23.4 GW of wind turbines were ordered, which is a slight increase compared to 2024. Onshore projects recorded a growth of 14%, while the offshore wind farm sector fell by as much as 39%, reports the RES Serbia portal.

Germany has the most orders

The largest buyer of wind turbines was Germany, with as many as 8.2 GW of orders, confirming its leading position in the European energy transition. Poland (2.1 GW) and Romania (1.6 GW) took second and third place. Romania is among the leading countries for the first time, showing that South-East Europe is starting to play a more significant role in the development of wind energy.

On the manufacturer side, Vestas secured the largest share of the market with 42% of the total capacity, while Nordex is close behind with 38%. Siemens Energy took third place with 8%, and smaller shares of the market went to GE Vernova (4%) and Goldwind (1%).

The average power of ordered onshore turbines increased to 6.1 MW from 5.7 MW, while offshore turbines fell slightly to 14.6 MW.

In the South-East Europe region, Romania stood out the most, becoming the third largest customer in Europe with 1.6 GW of orders. Turkey ordered around 1.5 GW, while Ukraine (1 GW) and Latvia (0.6 GW) also recorded significant orders.

For Serbia, however, the report does not record any wind turbine orders in 2025. In the second quarter of 2025, Bosnia and Herzegovina ordered 11 turbines with a power of 6 to 7 MW each.
