Annex No. 4 of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Belgrade, PUC Belgrade Metro and Train and the French company RATP DEV was signed in Belgrade yesterday, continuing cooperation on the implementation of the Belgrade Subway project, the city administration announced. As said in the statement, the annex provides a framework for the continuation of the partnership in the future management of the metro system, including further development of key elements of cooperation and preparation of the operational phase of the project.

Director of PUC Belgrade Metro and Train Andreja Mladenovic stated that the signing of the annex was an important step in the further development of the project and the continuation of continuous cooperation with partners, and emphasized that it enabled additional improvement of key elements of future cooperation and more thorough preparation of the operational phase, as published on the website of the City of Belgrade.

– Considering the complexity of the project and the involvement of a large number of participants, it is important to provide sufficient time for quality planning so that the future subway system is efficient, reliable and sustainable. Special focus will be placed on introducing the most modern technological solutions, including automated train control systems, which will enable a higher level of safety, greater precision in operation and a better quality service for passengers. Our goal is for Belgrade to have one of the most modern and high-quality subway systems in Europe and the world – said Mladenovic.

Secretary for Public Transport Slaven Andric assessed that the signing of the annex represented a continuation of systematic work on establishing a functional subway system, stating that the additional time would enable a more precise definition of all aspects of the future contract in order to ensure quality service for citizens.

– We are pleased to continue our cooperation with the City of Belgrade and the Belgrade Metro and Train Public Utility Company, thereby confirming our common ambition regarding the future automated subway system – said Jean-Luc Chapoton, Director of International Development at RATP DEV.

He added that this improved framework for cooperation allowed for the continuation of a constructive technical dialogue on high-capacity automated subway systems.

It is reminded that during the cooperation so far, a number of activities have been implemented, including contracts for early operator assistance services, as well as the preparation of a future contract for the management and maintenance of the Belgrade subway.

As stated, the ultimate goal is to establish a modern and reliable public transport system that will contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens and more efficient functioning of traffic in Belgrade.
