Foundation stone laid for Toyo Tires innovation center in Indjija

The foundation stone for the Toyo Tires Research and Development Center was officially laid today in Indjija. The facility, which will occupy 6,000 square meters, will be built within the industrial complex where the Japanese manufacturer’s tire factory has been operating since 2022. The new facility will have two units, one two-story and the other one-story. The center will have experimental spaces for small-scale rubber production, laboratories for material testing, offices for analysis and data processing, as well as spaces for presentations and employee training.

As Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic emphasized during the foundation stone laying ceremony, EUR 29 million will be invested in this center.

– Toyo Tires is preparing for a major investment in the world. Serbia is one of the three candidate countries. We have a problem called the American tariffs of 35%. We will ensure that all other conditions are better, and in the next hundred days we will work hard and do everything in our power to reduce or eliminate these tariffs, in order to receive one of the largest investments in Serbia, which would come from Japan and Toyo Tires – he said.

As he says, Serbia is very interested in having this investment open in Serbia.

– We are so interested in you opening a new factory for truck and car tires in Serbia. We will do everything to make this your final decision – Vucic stated.

Executive Director Satoru Moria pointed out that he had confidence in Serbia as a strategic partner.

– We invite the most talented experts in chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence in Serbia to join us – said Moria.

The new Research and Development Center, as previously announced, will be a specialized organizational unit of the company intended for research, development and improvement of processes in the production of car tires. The goal of this center is to develop new and improved production solutions that should further increase the competitiveness, efficiency and sustainability of the factory.

As previously indicated, tire production at the center will take place once a week for about six hours. According to previous announcements, part of the company’s research and development functions will be transferred from Germany to Serbia by the end of 2026. The German industrial engineering corporation HF Group, one of the world’s leading suppliers of tire production technology, has been selected as a partner for the project.

Toyo Tires Serbia began production in Indjija in 2022, and employs about 630 workers and produces about five million tires annually.
