State Data Center planned in Novi Sad too – Potential construction locations being considered

According to the national strategy “Serbia 2030,” the construction of new state data centers in Serbia is planned, including Novi Sad and Nis, as well as the expansion of existing capacities in Belgrade and Kragujevac. As part of the implementation of this plan, a meeting was held at the City Hall in Novi Sad to discuss potential locations for the center’s construction. The meeting was attended by Mayor Zarko Micin and representatives of the Office for IT and eGovernment, led by Director Mihailo Jovanovic.

Micin emphasized that the development of digital infrastructure was one of the key prerequisites for the economic and technological progress of Serbia.

– Our city is already recognized as one of the most important IT centers in the region and a city that has been a pioneer in the development of this industry for years. The fields of information technology and artificial intelligence are the sectors in which Novi Sad is today the strongest and most recognizable, not only in Serbia, but also in the Balkans, that is, in the region. I am convinced that, as a city with a strongly developed IT sector, a Faculty of Technical Sciences with more than 17,000 students, a Science and Technology Park, a large number of engineers, startups and technology companies, Novi Sad will significantly contribute to achieving the goals set by the national digital development strategy – said Micin.

Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment Mihailo Jovanovic emphasized that the construction of the State Data Center in Novi Sad would be an important step towards strengthening Serbia’s digital sovereignty, but also an additional incentive for the development of the technology industry, scientific research and new investments in this sector.

– The State Data Center in Kragujevac already represents the safest place for storing and processing data in the region and is one of the key pillars of Serbia’s digital transformation. In the coming period, the center’s capacities will be significantly expanded, which will provide additional space for storing and processing data from both domestic institutions and global companies. The development of this infrastructure represents the basis for the application of modern technologies, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, which will be one of the main drivers of economic and technological development in the next decade – said Jovanovic.
