NIS’s largest photovoltaic power plant put into operation

NIS has put into operation a ground-based solar photovoltaic power plant at the Novi Sad Oil Products Warehouse with an expected annual production of around 8.7 GWh. This is NIS’s largest solar power plant and one of the largest in Serbia, consisting of almost 12,000 solar photovoltaic panels and spread over 10 hectares of free space within the oil products warehouse. The implementation of this project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 10,000 tons annually, NIS announced.

By putting into operation the new solar photovoltaic power plant, NIS has tripled the capacity of the solar power plants it owns, and it is estimated that with its annual production, the new solar power plant can meet the annual electricity needs of around 2,000 average households in Serbia. The photovoltaic panels within the complex are connected to a total of 18 inverters, each with a nominal power of 330 kW, and the generated electricity is fully delivered to the distribution network for sale under commercial conditions, NIS emphasizes.

This power plant, with a total installed capacity of 6.8 MWp, is not only a technical and investment undertaking, but also proof of our commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection and the development of domestic capacities in the field of renewable energy sources. By implementing this project, NIS continues to diversify its business and implement its strategic commitments regarding the green agenda, expands its activities in the field of energy efficiency and makes significant steps in the energy transition process – said Rastislav Kragic, Energy Manager at NIS.

In addition to the ground-based power plant in the Warehouse in Novi Sad, NIS has so far built and commissioned 78 photovoltaic power plants at its gas stations in Serbia. A photovoltaic solar power plant with a total capacity of 620 kWp was also commissioned at the Drinking Water Production Plant “Jazak,” which has a combined position of photovoltaic panels partly on the roof and partly on the ground.

Rooftop photovoltaic power plants were also built at the Novi Sad Oil Derivatives Warehouse with a capacity of 585 kWp, at the NIS business facility in Arse Teodorovica Street in Novi Sad with a capacity of 100 kWp, as well as on the roofs of six facilities at the Pancevo Oil Refinery with a capacity of 610 kWp. The total projected annual electricity production from all photovoltaic power plants commissioned, with a total capacity of 11.3 MWp, is approximately 13.5 GWh. The expected greenhouse gas emission savings from these projects will amount to approximately 15,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
