The focus of your attention was on strategic projects for the reconstruction and construction of hospital capacities. Although these are still mostly announcements, all of this is, slowly but surely, inevitably getting closer to concrete implementation, and there were also interesting acquisitions and news regarding the development of Serbian medical science, to “balance” the annual average.
This retrospective realistically takes a look at the main investment flows and key projects in the sector, and you can check out our 10 most read “health” articles in 2025:
1. New General Hospital in Sabac
The most read article was that in September a tender was announced for the preparation of technical documentation for the construction of the General Hospital “Dr Laza K. Lazarevic” at a new location, after the Draft Detailed Regulation Plan for the construction of the hospital at a new location, as well as for the reconstruction of the Health Center in Sabac, was presented at the beginning of the year before last.

The construction of the new hospital complex is planned on a plot bordered by Hajduk Stanka Street on the east and Gavrila Principa Street on the southwest, on almost 80,000 m2 of usable space.
The companies that won this tender were Almis company d.o.o Beograd, Rudarski institut d.o.o. Beograd and ALAMAK INZENJERING d.o.o. Beograd, which were awarded the contract worth 199.6 million dinars in November.
2. and 3. Construction of diagnostic center of Kraljevo hospital
In second and third place are the news that first in August a tender was announced, and then in December the contractors were selected for the construction of the diagnostic center of the General Hospital in Kraljevo.
The job worth EUR 13.6 million was awarded to a group of bidders led by the company Delta EPC doo Beograd, and the consortium also includes the companies Drager Tehnika, Delta Inzenjering, Delta Preving, Telesec, Delta Cleanroom and ENIKON doo Loznica.

The construction of the Admission and Diagnostic Center represents one of the most significant investments in the Kraljevo healthcare system, and the new facility should improve diagnostic capacities and the organization of patient admission at the Studenica General Hospital.
4. Serbian scientists sell drug for autoimmune diseases and cancer
A strong 4th position on our list was taken by the news that Sanofi bought biopharmaceutical company Dren Bio for USD 1.9 billion.
Dren Bio is based in San Francisco and was founded by Serbian scientists.
The agreement stipulates that Sanofi will acquire Dren Bio’s autoimmune disease treatment, DR-0201, a targeted bispecific activator of myeloid cells. The drug, which has shown strong reduction of B-cells in early clinical studies, is being tested for a number of autoimmune diseases and malignancies.
5. Why triglycerides are a silent killer in the blood
Readers were very interested in why triglycerides were called the “silent killer in the blood.” Although they are often mentioned less than cholesterol, elevated triglycerides can be the first signal that changes are taking place in the body that lead to serious cardiovascular diseases.
The problem is that elevated triglycerides do not give early symptoms like cholesterol. They can remain imperceptibly high for years, until they cause some consequences and diseases such as atherosclerosis, hypertension or even pancreatitis, so understanding their role and monitoring the values is one of the most important steps in preventing heart disease, and you can read more about it in the text that was ranked 5th on our list.
6. Reconstruction and expansion of Bukovicka Banja
The next position went to the information that a tender has been announced for the reconstruction and expansion of Bukovicka Banja.
The tender was announced in early December by the Special Hospital for Specialized and General Rehabilitation Bukovicka Banja in Arandjelovac, and it refers to the rehabilitation of the “Indoor Bathroom” facility, with the construction of a new annex and a walkway that will connect the two facilities at basement level.

The companies that won this tender are Elkoms d.o.o. Beograd, AG-UNS arhitektonsko građevinski institut d.o.o. Novi Sad and Atraktivno dugotrajno urbano tradicionalno-ADUT, which were awarded the contract on January 29 of this year, in the amount of 181.9 million dinars.
7. Serbia developing most modern vaccines against cancer with Italians
Another piece of news related to the development of Serbian medical knowledge, this time in 7th place on this year’s list. It is epochal news, which went completely unnoticed in Serbia: that Serbia and Italy are working together on the development of a biotechnology platform for the preparation of innovative vaccines against cancer!
The “EPIC” project, which falls under the thematic area of “"bio and RNA technologies,” will be developed by the Laboratory for Cellular Immunology in Trieste, which operates at the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), and the Institute for the Application of Nuclear Energy of the University of Belgrade (INEP), ICGEB announced back at the end of March.
The aim of the project is to develop a new biotechnology platform for the preparation of anti-cancer vaccines based on dendritic cells, with the ultimate goal of creating new generation vaccines using pluripotent stem cells (iPSC).
8. MediGroup sold to Finnish Mehilainen Group
The largest transaction in the private healthcare market in Central and Eastern Europe, the news that MediGroup was sold to the Finnish Mehilainen Group, placed 8th on our list.
Mehilainen Group is taking over 100% of MediGroup and the Romanian system Regina Maria, which marks the exit of investors MidEuropa and Blue Sea Capital from the ownership structure, according to information from April last year, and Marijana Vasilescu, CEO of MediGroup System, stated that MediGroup was now “ready to further improve its services, introduce innovations and set new standards in healthcare.”
At the time of the sale, MediGroup held a 17% market share in the private healthcare sector in Serbia.
9. and 10. New and old GOC Narodni front
In March, we announced what the new Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic “Narodni front” in Bezanijska kosa would look like, and that news is in the penultimate place on this list. Namely, the GOC “Narodni front,” currently located at 62 Kraljice Natalije Street in Belgrade, will be moved to a new location, where a completely new facility will be built.

And lastly, the GOC “Narodni front” again, but with the news from December that, while the construction of the new one in Bezanijska kosa is pending, the existing maternity ward in the city center will be renovated, so the rooms on the third floor will get a bathroom and a maximum of three beds.
