The national airline Air Serbia has announced that it has carried nearly 50,000 passengers on the route in one year of direct flights between Belgrade and Shanghai.

The company’s CEO, Jiri Marek, assessed that the result “further confirms the strategic importance of the Belgrade-Shanghai route.”

– The introduction of direct flights between Belgrade and Shanghai was aimed at connecting Serbia more strongly and efficiently with this important global hub. During the first year of operations on this intercontinental route, we carried almost 50,000 passengers, which clearly shows that we have successfully responded to market needs and justified passenger expectations – Marek said in a statement on the occasion of the first anniversary of the establishment of the airline.

He added that direct flights between Belgrade and Shanghai “enable faster exchange of experiences, development of business cooperation, as well as more intensive cultural and tourist contacts between Serbia and China.”

Air Serbia operated its first direct flight from Belgrade to Shanghai on January 11 last year, and in addition to that Chinese city, it has also established a direct flight to Guangzhou.
