The capital’s Nikola Pasic Square, which for most of last year was a kind of "forbidden city" for most of Belgrade, whether pedestrians or drivers, has finally been reopened to traffic after almost nine months of its closure, and the public transport lines that used to run there before its closure have finally returned.
This square, as a reminder, was closed to traffic due to works being carried out on it, but above all, the installation of several tents on the reconstructed roadway, and then concrete barriers, which meant that, although the square was ready to be reopened to traffic several months ago, it was blocked without any notice until when the blockade would last. As a result, for months, in addition to the regular ones, additional crowds and traffic jams were created in the city center, and numerous city bus lines were redirected to surrounding streets, which further extended the journey of public transport users.
When it comes to the final return of this square to traffic use, as announced by the Belgrade Secretariat for Traffic, regular traffic has been established on the square itself, on the new roundabout on Nikola Pasic Square and in the surrounding streets - Decanska and Dragoslava Jovanovica.
- Regular traffic of all passenger motor vehicles and public transport vehicles is being established, and the Pioneers’ Park garage continues to operate at full capacity. The biggest news for drivers is the roundabout, which regulates the intersection of vehicles approaching from the direction of the Abbot's Palace, the Decanska and the National Assembly in a much safer way compared to the previous traffic regime - the secretariat pointed out.
Another novelty relates to the operating regime of the Pionirski Park garage, which can now only be accessed from the direction of the Igumanov Palace, towards the Nikola Pasic Square, by driving along the Nikola Pasic Square and from there turning right into Dragoslava Jovanovica Street.
For public transport vehicles, which have their stops on the Nikola Pasic Square, additional bus niches have been built in both directions.
- This allows for better movement of other motor vehicles and better flow of all traffic.
- By establishing a new roundabout on Nikola Pasic Square, we have provided another new traffic solution in the city center, which, along with all those implemented so far in the last few years, completely changes the traffic picture in the city center and provides drivers with new opportunities and better quality of traffic - the secretariat stated.
