International transit road freight traffic through Hungary from January 1, 2026, will only take place on a designated road network – the transit road network, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced, citing the Hungarian Embassy.

Additional information on the transit road network will be available at the National Access Point (NAP) managed by the Hungarian Public Roads Company.

The ministry also indicated that an interactive map with restrictions for road freight vehicles and national public roads on which traffic is restricted had been prepared and that it could be accessed via the NAP.

The goal of Hungary’s transport policy, as indicated, is for road transporters to use motorways and expressways as much as possible and leave them only near the destination, at the shortest possible distance, the statement said.
