Green permit requested for construction of right lane of Y-branch – Three interchanges to be built, existing toll ramp not to be demolished

The PE Corridors of Serbia submitted to the relevant ministry a request for a decision on the need for an environmental impact assessment for the construction project of the Y-branch, E75 highway, section Kelebija border crossing - Subotica-South interchange, in full profile (construction of the right lane and grade-separated intersections), on the territory of Subotica (KO Stari grad, Donji grad and Bikovo).

As stated in the conceptual design prepared by Project biro Utiber d.o.o. Novi Sad, the road, approximately 22 km long, connects the border crossing “Kelebija” with the highway “Horgos” - Novi Sad.

Construction works on the first phase of construction of the Y-branch (bypass around Subotica), left lane, were completed and at the end of 2019 the road was opened to traffic, and now the right lane of the highway has been designed.

Technical characteristics

The right lane is designed with a standard lane width of 10.70 meters, while the left lane will be adjusted to the same width. In certain places at rest areas and graded intersections, the lane width is 11.85 meters.

The project envisages three graded intersections:

• Bajmok, state road IB-12 (M-17.1), “trumpet” type, km 12+763.15
• Verusic, state road IIA-100 (M-22.1), km 17+689.27
• Subotica-south, intersection of the E-75 motorway (Kelebija - Subotica-south section) and E-75 (Horgos - Novi Sad section), “triangle” type with two direct and two semi-direct ramp.

Within the “Bajmok” and “Verusic” graded intersections, three-arm roundabouts with an outer diameter of 45 meters and a lane width in the roundabout of 6.5 meters per lane have been designed. The single-lane roundabouts are planned to accommodate up to 20,000 vehicles per day, in accordance with the projected forecasts - about 11,468 vehicles for “Bajmok” and 10,996 for “Verusic.” The exact position and geometry of the intersections will be defined in the further development of the project documentation, the document states. At the request of the investor, for the needs of the construction of the “Subotica south” graded intersection, the demolition of the existing intersection is planned, while the toll plaza on the Horgos - Novi Sad highway at kilometer ~26+650 will be retained. The changes, as stated, were made to provide a greater length for vehicle re-alignment after passing through the toll station in the direction of Novi Sad - Horgos (Kelebija), including the new geometry of the Novi Sad - Kelebija ramp at the graded intersection of the “triangle” type.

The existing road maintenance base remains within the “Subotica South” interchange, and access to the E-75 highway is provided in all directions, for both the Horgos - Novi Sad section and the “Kelebija” - Subotica South interchange section.

Local road deviations

• Miljkutski put – deviation and overpass over the highway have been built.
• Bajski put – construction of a deviation is planned according to the solutions from the Basic Main Project (lane width of 6.60 m with 1.0 m shoulders on both sides).
• Bikovacki put – construction of a deviation is planned according to the solutions from the Basic Main Project (lane width of 6.60 m with 1.0 m shoulders on both sides). In the final phase of the implementation of the highway in question, Bikovacki put crosses the highway border crossing “Kelebija” - interchange “Subotica south” in the form of an overpass. At the crossing point over the E-75 highway (section: Horgos - Novi Sad), the demolition of the existing structure is planned in order to simultaneously cross the E-75 highway and the Novi Sad - Kelebija ramp of the newly designed “Subotica south” interchange with a newly designed bridge structure.

Rest areas

Four rest areas are planned:

• “Backi Vinogradi” – left, km 8+400
• “Cekerija” – right, km 8+400
• “Kod Rade” – left, km 15+950
• “Aerodrom” – right, km 21+050

These rest areas will be equipped with lighting and standard toilet facilities.
