The company Huawei has been present in Serbia for years in the field of digitalization and development of eGovernment systems, and it could soon expand its operations and business in our country to other fields, primarily when it comes to the production of chips and other electronic components, up to the development of solutions in the field of artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Djuro Macut, discussed the possibilities of “additionally structuring” Huawei’s business in Serbia during a meeting he had in Shanghai with representatives of this company.

Macut, as announced by the Government, also met with representatives of the Chinese companies BGI Group and Sinopharm. He emphasized that those companies were interested in improving cooperation with Serbia, especially in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, high technologies, communications and economy.

– BGI Group is engaged in research and diagnostics in the field of clinical genetics, and Sinopharm is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in China, with which we already have a historical relationship. The discussions were related to the current cooperation, but also to its improvement, primarily in the areas they cover – said Macut.

The Prime Minister added that BGI was interested in marketing its new technologies in the field of developmental medicine, applied medicine and applied clinical medicine.

– This is something that has already characterized their presence in Serbia since the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the “Vatreno oko” laboratories were opened in Serbia. Sequencing the genome of the virus was then of exceptional importance in confirmation and diagnostics, as well as in monitoring virus mutations for better therapy efficiency. These technologies can now be applied both in the field of diagnostics and in monitoring other health problems in patients who survived COVID infection and who later had certain complications – he said.

According to him, cooperation with this company should grow to a level that will improve bioinformatics, that is, the analysis of data that we already receive in Serbia with the help of their technological solutions in the field of new genetic possibilities and capacities, to usability in areas such as oncology or general clinical medicine.

Macut stated that he had discussed with representatives of the Sinopharm company the improvement of cooperation, primarily the therapeutic lines they had in China.
