Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that Russia was looking for a solution for Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) and that he hoped for a positive outcome.

– The Russians are working harder than we are. They are looking for a partner and I am happy that they have taken the situation seriously – Vucic told TV Informer. He added that Serbia had to agree with the Russians and with anyone with whom they made an agreement on the transfer of ownership in NIS, which the US had imposed sanctions on due to its majority Russian ownership.

– We have to solve the NIS issue. I believe that we will manage to solve it with our partners, that would be a huge relief. Then we will have to dedicate ourselves to EXPO, to further increasing the standards – Vucic said.

He added that he was not pessimistic about finding a solution for NIS, at least not to the extent he had been.

The US imposed sanctions on NIS in January of this year, which, after eight delays, have been in effect since October 9.
