Village tourism increasingly popular in Serbia – 50% more visits to rural areas in a year

The Ministry of Tourism and Youth emphasizes that, compared to last year, visits to rural tourist households have increased the most, by 50%.

Tourists are looking for opportunities for shorter vacations and relaxation, for which going to such destinations is ideal.

Rural tourism combines 19 types of tourism, and Fruska Gora offers almost everything from farms, adventure, health and religious tourism.

From wineries to monasteries

Whoever visits the Odrovacki family wine cellar in the village of Rivica will not only remember the taste of the wine, but also the story of the tradition of winemaking in this area.

Sava Odrovacki also tells visitors about a document from 1749, which lists the inhabitants of Rivica, where his family’s surname is mentioned for the first time. Sava is, by the way, a winemaker from Rivica.

– Just to show that some elements of tradition, unfortunately, existed in our country and were lost. Tradition is a very important thing because when something works and lasts, you realize that it is worth it – says Sava.

And every step on Fruska Gora is a story about tradition. Spiritual in the first place, because there are 16 active monasteries here.

Tourism workers, accordingly, recommend what to visit.

Milica Dudukovic, from Mala Remeta, says that the first thing she recommends to guests is a tour of the monasteries.

– More precisely, the sacred Fruska Gora, of course, many lakes. Nature itself is healing – she says.

Attractions, adventure and health

The place Mala Remeta is next to the monastery of the same name, since the Dudukovic family built accommodation facilities here and is in the hospitality business, the village has come to life. People also come here for health.

– We are at the highest point of Fruska Gora and we have a wind rose. This is very good for medical tourism, for the thyroid gland, cardiovascular system and lungs – says Milica.

Rural tourism on Fruska Gora, but also in other parts of Serbia, has only grown in the past year.

Uros Kandic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, has an explanation.

– In the first ten months and a little more, we have had about 180 thousand overnight stays in rural tourist households in Serbia, which is 50% more than last year.

The increase in the number of rural tourist households in Serbia has been noticeable since the beginning of 2023, when there were about 800 of them, and today there are about 1200 registered.
